Ty Pennington has been officially released from the ICU after he was hospitalized for an abscess that was “closing my airway,” which he candidly revealed in an Instagram post shared Friday.
The former Extreme Makeover: Home Edition host, 58, remarkably attended the Barbie premiere in Los Angeles on Sunday, but two days later, he was rushed to the emergency room and “intubated” after he “could barely breathe’.
In a detailed caption alongside photos of himself in a hospital bed, the star explained: “Turns out the sore throat I’ve had for the past month was actually an abscess that had grown so large it was closing my airway.” .
“Next thing I know, they intubated me and moved me to the ICU in Denver,” but added positively: “I had surgery on Wednesday and yesterday [Thursday] I was released from the ICU late.’

At the beginning of his message to fans, Pennington wrote: “From the red carpet to UCI… this last week has been an interesting one!” and he added that he was ‘fine’ but ‘still on the mend…’
He further explained that he felt it “seemed weird that I hadn’t posted about my #BOTB VICTORY!!” teams, referring to his recent win in the third season of the HGTV real estate competition show Battle On The Beach.
“To shed some light on why I was MIA… On Sunday I hit the red carpet for @barbiethemovie, on Monday I flew to Colorado to start filming in Breckenridge and on Tuesday morning I woke up at 4am barely I could breathe.”
After talking about what directly caused the health scare, Ty gave a special shout out to the healthcare workers who stood by him every step of the way.
“Thank you so much to all the amazing staff at St. Anthony’s in Lakewood, CO and Summit Health in Frisco for taking such good care of me,” and gave his followers a few words of caution. ‘A great reminder to LISTEN to your body when it is telling you something.’

Hit Series: And it seems luck was on her side, and she rose to stardom when she began hosting the hit series, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, from 2004 until the show ended its ninth season in 2012.
Ty is known for starring in hit shows like Trading Spaces, which he worked on as a carpenter from 2000 to 2003. However, after three years, he made the decision to leave the show.
