Ty Pennington took to Instagram on Friday to share that he was admitted to the intensive care unit just days after attending the Barbie Premiere in Los Angeles.
In the publication, the former presenter of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition revealed that he was intubated at the hospital after an abscess in his throat closed off his airway. She also shared several photos of him lying in a hospital bed and of him at the premiere.
“From the red carpet, to ICU… this last week has been interesting! I’m fine now, still on the mend,” she wrote. “To shed some light on why I was MIA… On Sunday I hit the red carpet for @barbiethemovie, on Monday I flew to Colorado to start filming in Breckinridge and on Tuesday morning I woke up at 4am and could barely breathe . Turns out I have a sore throat. for the last month it was actually an abscess that had grown so large that it was closing off my airway. The next thing I knew, I was intubated and moved to the ICU in Denver.”
But luckily, Pennington said he’s expected to be okay. He noted that after surgery on Wednesday, he was finally released from the ICU the next day.
“Thank you so much to all the amazing staff at St. Anthony’s in Lakewood, CO and Summit Health in Frisco for taking such good care of me,” she added in her post. “A great reminder to LISTEN to your body when it is telling you something.”
Pennington was one of several other stars who arrived on the pink carpet next to the Barbie The cast of the film, which includes Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, Issa Rae, Simu Liu, Michael Cera, and Kate McKinnon. The Greta Gerwig-directed film opens in theaters on July 21.
He was also there to promote HGTV’s upcoming four-part series. Barbie Dream House Challenge, in which he also competes. Ashley Graham hosts the series, which premieres July 16.
