A 54-year-old woman and a 70-year-old woman suffered serious injuries after being crushed by a tree in Sydney's north on Sunday.

Two women were hospitalized after being crushed by a fallen tree.

A 54-year-old woman and a 70-year-old woman were rushed to North Shore Hospital after a large tree fell on the front of a house in Pymble, on Sydney’s upper north shore, about 3.50pm on Sunday. .

The tree fell during a storm, leaving the 54-year-old woman with injuries to her shoulder, chest and legs, while the 70-year-old woman suffered a back injury.

A man in his 60s also suffered minor injuries.

Firefighters spent more than an hour working to free the women from under the tree.

Paramedics carried out critical treatment at the scene before being rushed to hospital in a stable condition.

“Considering where they were and the branches on the branches, they were very lucky,” said Carolyn Harris of NSW Ambulance.

It is understood that the tree, a sweet gum, may have been struck by lightning.
