A police investigation has been launched after two teenage girls were raped next to a canal over Easter weekend.

The girls were on the canal towpath, near Park Street, in Aylesbury between 9.30pm and 10.10pm on Saturday when the attacks took place.

A 17-year-old boy from Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, was arrested on suspicion of two rapes but has been released on bail.

Detective Sergeant Thomas Booth, stationed at Aylesbury Police Station, said: ‘This is a worrying incident but I want to reassure the community that we are conducting a thorough investigation.

“Our specialized agents are in the process of supporting the victims in connection with this incident.

The girls were on the canal towpath, near Park Street (pictured), in Aylesbury between 9.30pm and 10.10pm on Saturday when the attacks took place.

“The public can see an increased police presence as we continue the investigation and I would advise anyone who is concerned to speak to one of our officers.”

Detective Booth added: “I would also ask anyone who has CCTV, a dash cam or a video doorbell to view their footage and contact us if there is anything they see that could help our investigation.”

Police are calling on anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
