Two prisoners died in separate incidents 12 hours apart in a prison north of Brisbane.

The authorities say the deaths are unrelated. Investigations are ongoing, but early indications suggest neither is suspected.

The first prisoner, 37, was found in the laundromat of Woodford Correctional Center on Wednesday around 4 p.m.

Prison staff tried to save him, but he couldn’t be brought back to life.

The second prisoner, also 37, died alone in his cell from suspected self-injuries.

The Corrective Services Investigation Department is investigating both deaths.
