Two people injured after car doing burnouts at North Arm Cove crashed and caught fire – as the driver fled the scene

The driver of a Ford Falcon that lost control by burning out left their car in flames after hitting a woman and a teenage girl, police allege.

They reportedly fled the scene after the car crashed into a power pole and burst into flames in the NSW Hunter region at North Arm Cove near Port Stephens about 11.40pm on Friday.

The driver of the white Falcon had been performing burnouts in front of a crowd when they lost control and hit two people, police allege.

A 20-year-old woman and a 14-year-old girl were taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition with pelvic and leg injuries.

The car was impounded for forensic examination after the firefighters had extinguished the fire.

The police hope to speak to the driver and ask for any footage.
