Two people have been rescued after falling into a giant tank of chocolate at the Mars factory in Pennsylvania.

In an incident that could have easily been ripped from the pages of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the couple fell waist-deep in a huge vat of chocolate and were unable to climb out without help.

The two who fell into the tank were factory workers and were not injured, but the Elizabethtown Fire Department had to be called in to get them out.

The Lancaster County Control Room explained how the two ended up in the tank just before 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

More than two dozen emergency services attended the scene.

Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour before the two people, who were “not floating in the chocolate,” were rescued and taken to hospital.

A hole had to be made in the tank to free the people. Both were taken to a local hospital by helicopter reports PennLive

“We can confirm that both people have been taken abroad for further evaluation. We are extremely grateful for the rapid work of the first responders,” said a statement from Mars.

The factory, 12 miles from Hershey, Pennsylvania, is known for making a variety of products, including M&Ms and Dove chocolate.
