Shortly after midnight on Sunday morning, as crowds gathered around the historic Market Square, gunshots were heard.
Two men, ages 18 and 20, began shooting at each other near the stage in Conch Alley and police ran over and opened fire on the men.
Police were chasing the teen when one of their shots hit the 20-year-old and knocked him to the ground.
The officer then opened fire on the teen, according to police.
The 18-year-old died at the scene, while the other gunman died at a local hospital later that day.
Four female bystanders were injured in the shooting.
A 36-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while two other young women were checked out and released at the scene.
It is not clear whether they were shot by gunmen or police bullets. The two officers involved have worked for the department for 13 years and five years.
Police Chief William McManus said officers working near the scene intervened when they heard gunshots in the area of South Santa Rosa and Dolorosa.

He tweeted at 3am: ‘I’m on the scene of an OIS that occurred just before the end of the Market Square Fiesta event.
‘The two individuals who shot each other have died. Four others suffered non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were injured.’
He added: “We have a very busy crime scene here. We are trying to fix everything.
“Two officers returned fire and pronounced him dead.”
