Police say two people died after being held hostage at a pediatrician in downtown Austin for six hours.
The bodies of the two victims were found in the Children’s Medical Group late on Tuesday, hours after a suspect allegedly entered the facility with a gun and captured an unknown number of people.
The suspect has not been identified, but the person is believed to be a doctor based on police officers’ negotiations with the hostage-taker through a megaphone heard by witnesses.
Police were seen entering a building while responding to the hostage situation in the doctor’s office in Austin, Texas, where authorities said two people had been found dead

The incident took place at Children’s Medical Group in downtown Austin. The suspect is believed to be a doctor based on police officers’ negotiations that were heard on the spot, but witnesses reportedly said the doctor was not employed at the facility
Austin police eventually sent in a robot, which identified a victim before a SWAT team decided to enter.
The SWAT team then entered the medical office and found one victim “ who was originally in the building and one who was not dead, ” police said.
They have not confirmed whether or not the suspect died of either of them, and no additional details were released.
Agents were called to the scene around 4:30 p.m. local time after receiving a call about a “ malfunction in a building, ” said KVUE.
The situation then turned into a deadlock between police officers and a hostage situation that lasted until 11 p.m., during which authorities repeatedly called for the suspect’s surrender.
Witnesses told a Fox 7 reporter at the scene that everyone in the office had been held hostage, but three people were immediately released by the suspect.
A patient’s parent also reported it Fox news that their doctor was among those held captive in the building.
When I arrived at the scene, I saw a woman escorted by the police from the area where she was being met and hugged by a child. And that’s what we’ve seen in recent hours: multiple people who have walked out and are being handed over to whom we can only assume are loved ones, ” tweeted reporter Amanda Ruiz.
Ruiz said another witness had claimed the suspect did not work in the office.
It is unclear what led to death or who was in the building, although a negotiator said into a loudspeaker, ‘… I want to help you work through this. You have saved many lives. ‘
‘I cannot guarantee your safety unless you comply with it. I’ll let you know, Doctor, there is a way to fix this. I need your help to resolve the situation. That starts with answering the phone, ”said the negotiator, tweeted KVUE-TV reporter Tony Plohetski.
Authorities were heard to say to the suspect, “Everything that happens tonight does not take away from everything you have achieved as a doctor.”
In an update shared at 9:30 p.m. local time, authorities said they had been unable to contact the suspect for two hours.
About two hours later, police released a statement confirming that a SWAT team had entered the building and found two dead.
‘Two subjects were located and declared dead. The APD homicide department is on the scene and is investigating, ” police said in a statement on Twitter.
The police will release more information tomorrow.
