A man suffered burns to his hands after a woman allegedly set fire to his apartment in a horrific early morning incident in Meadowbrook (file image pictured) in Brisbane's south on Saturday.

A Queensland woman has been charged with trying to kill a man she knew after allegedly setting fire to his home.

Emergency services were called to University Drive in Meadowbrook, south of Brisbane, on Saturday morning after reports of a fire at the unit.

The occupant, a 26-year-old man, suffered burns to his hands and was treated at the scene.

A 30-year-old woman was rushed to hospital with “significant burns”, according to Queensland Police, and charged with attempted murder and arson late on Saturday.

“It will be alleged that at around 4am the woman went to a residence on University Drive and threatened a man she knew, before deliberately setting fire to his unit,” a Queensland Police Service spokesperson said.

Police say the woman resides in Marsden, about 6 kilometers west of the Meadowbrook unit.

The woman remains in hospital and is expected to appear at Beenleigh Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
