Two pandas sent from China to a zoo in Washington DC were captured in adorable video footage enjoying life in their new home.
Bao Li and Qing Bao, the three-year-old giant panda couple, were able to take in some playtime at the National Zoo in Washington in preparation for their official debut in January after they arrived in the country from Beijing earlier this month in the latest case of China’s so-called “panda diplomacy.”
And the adorable bears even experienced snowfall for the first time.
The touching video captured one of the pandas jumping off a platform in the enclosure before trotting excitedly towards an enrichment toy, a toy that encourages them to play while using their natural behavior to help them feel more at home.
The video then showed him hysterically prancing around the toy and jumping on two legs before trotting away.
Footage taken at a closer angle captured the pandas somersaulting under the trees with their toys in hand as they rolled through the fallen leaves, seemingly making themselves at home.
The endearing animals ate carrots, bamboo and apples and played happily with falling snowflakes during the state’s first real taste of winter on Friday morning after the ‘bomb cyclone’ hit areas on the east coast, leaving behind storms and light snowfall.
His arrival marked a rare diplomatic success between the United States and China after relations between the two global powers deteriorated in recent years due to tensions over trade and geopolitics.
