Two murder suspects are on the loose after pulling off a daring escape from a Mississippi jail.

Tyrekennel Collins, 24, and Dezarrious Johnson, 18, escaped from the Claiborne County Detention Center around 2 a.m. Friday.

They climbed through a panel in the ceiling of the common area and used sheets to climb down from a window.

But police say one crucial sign will give away one of the fugitives, as Johnson injured his leg during the escape and walks with a severe limp.

Residents in the area have been warned to “take necessary precautions.”

A manhunt is currently underway for them and U.S. Marshals have contacted their families and both men face additional charges in connection with the escape.

Collins was charged with the murder of his cousin in Copiah County.

While Johnson is charged with murder and aggravated assault in Jefferson County, he was charged with the October 2022 murder of one person and the injuries to two others.

His trial is scheduled to begin on October 15.

Deputy Warden Sykes admitted that this is not the first time that inmates at the jail have been able to escape in this manner.

“It’s been a problem,” he said. “We’re working closely with the board of supervisors to get it resolved as quickly as possible.”
