Two men are in custody following an investigation into the alleged assault of two off-duty police officers in Sydney’s inner west on Wednesday night.

The men, aged 18 and 20, were arrested at a house in Mascot at around 3.20pm on Thursday and taken to Mascot police station.

Emergency services were called to Enmore Road, Newtown, following reports of a fight at around 11pm last night.

Police found a 25-year-old off-duty officer unconscious on the road.

An off-duty nurse performed CPR until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics before he was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

The injured man and a second man, who is also an off-duty police officer, were walking along Enmore Road when they approached three men who were arguing.

The two off-duty officers were allegedly assaulted, with one of them knocking him to the ground and punching and kicking him in the head repeatedly.

The three men left the scene before local police arrived.

The two off-duty officers attended a concert by American singer Alec Benjamin at the Enmore Theatre.

A crime scene was established and detectives began an investigation into the incident under the direction of Strike Force Rabnor.

The consultations continue.
