Two ax-retaining men are on the run after a frightening carjacking this morning.

On Saturday, April 13 at 4.30 am, two men, ages 24 and 30, were in a Ford area on Ironbark Lane, Cessnock, when they were approached by the armed men.

The men, who did not know their victims, were armed with an ax, a bat and a knife.

Police say the armed men have driven the couple out of the vehicle in the car and threatened them to claim their property.

The men handed over part of their possessions before they left the scene, leaving their car behind for the attackers.

The victims then went to the police and reported the incident before the 30-year-old was taken to Cessnock hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Hunter Valley Police District officers have informed Daily Mail that arrests have not yet taken place and that their questions remain.
