Police have arrested two men for the rape of a British tourist near Benidorm.
Detectives revealed today that the tourist was attacked after agreeing to pay two men who offered to take her back to her hotel in their car while she waited for a taxi.
She was allegedly raped at the home of one of the suspects after falling asleep in the back of the vehicle.
The men, both Algerian citizens aged 39 and 44, are being held in custody pending an ongoing investigation.
One was also being pursued for a violent robbery two days before the sexual attack in Villajoyosa, next to Benidorm.

Police believe the tourist was waiting to return home when two men offered to take her in exchange for cash, before raping her.
The Briton’s age has not been revealed, but well-placed sources described her as “young.” She is said to have handed over 15 euros (£13) for the ticket.
A spokesperson for the Civil Guard revealed today: ‘The Civil Guard has arrested two men in Villajoyosa for the rape of a foreign tourist in August inside a farm in that town.
‘The incident occurred in the early hours of August 25.
‘The tourist was waiting for a taxi in Benidorm to take her back to her hotel after going out partying and the suspects offered to take her in exchange for money.
«I had just left a nightclub that was about to close in a popular nightlife area frequented by tourists in Benidorm.
“After agreeing to travel with them and paying the money, she fell asleep and that’s when both suspects allegedly took advantage of the situation to take her to one of their homes and sexually assault her.”
Detectives said the woman alerted police that she found her on the street after waking up and “escaping” the property where the alleged sexual assault occurred.
The arrests took place last month, but the police did not make them public until today, after an investigating judge ordered the two men to remain in preventive detention.
The police spokesperson said: “Investigators analyzed security cameras near the area where the tourist was picked up, which allowed them to identify the men’s vehicle and the location where the alleged sexual attack occurred.”
‘They also managed to identify the suspects, two men aged 39 and 44.
“One of them was being pursued by the police for a violent robbery two days before the rape.”

Police have not released images of the arrests, but have released images related to the investigation, including what appears to be a DNA sample.
Detectives are believed to have examined the movements of around 30,000 vehicles to identify the car that picked up the British tourist.
The court hearing that led to his being sent to a nearby prison pending ongoing investigations took place in private, as is normal in Spain, where only trials are held in public.
