Two legendary BBC game shows will be returning to screens in just weeks after fans were left “blown away” by a new presenter.

Only Connect and University Challenge return to BBC Two on Monday 12 August in what is being dubbed ‘Quiz Monday’.

In University Challenge, 28 new student teams from across the UK will battle it out for champion status.

Host Amol Rajan asks questions as students across the country face the most diabolical tests.

Teams will really have to put their knowledge to the test, tackling questions about all aspects of human thought, achievements and culture from around the world.

The familiar theme tune heralds the return of fast-paced, fiercely competitive matches, featuring the country’s brightest students and the unmistakable voice of announcer Roger Tilling.

The teams will play representing universities and colleges from all four nations of the United Kingdom.

Amol Rajan says: ‘It’s been a summer of great competition on our screens, with plenty of drama, tense endings and brilliant talent.

“And the exciting new series of University Challenge continues in that vein. The standards are high, the students are superb and the beginners for 10 are as addictive as ever. Come join us!”

Kalpna Patel-Knight, BBC’s director of entertainment commissioning, added: ‘Amol’s first series of University Challenge left audiences speechless.

‘I’m so excited for him to be back and facing off against more amazing college teams.

“This new series is sure to have audiences screaming at their screens again and I’m looking forward to the next big moment.”

One fan enthused: “It may be controversial, but Amol Rajan is my favourite University Challenge game show host, and I’ve been watching him since the 60s.”

Another added: ‘I’ve been watching #UniversityChallenge since 1996 and was – hell, am – a bit of a Paxmaniac.

“But I really enjoy watching Amol Rajan direct the show. Fast-paced, high-octane, with a very personal style. Excellent.”
