Two boys aged 16 and 17 die in early morning car crash: Police launch appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage

Two teenagers died in a ‘tragic’ car crash in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police received a report of a collision on the A196 near Coopies Way, in Morpeth, Northumberland, shortly after 00:40.
Emergency services responded to the crash site but, despite the best efforts of doctors, two teenagers, ages 17 and 16, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Northumbria Police have said both families are being supported by specialist officers.
Officers have launched an investigation and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward, especially anyone with dashcam footage.

Police rushed to the accident on the A196 after receiving reports of the accident at approximately 12:40 on Sunday morning.
Sergeant Craig Bartle, from the Northumbria Police Motor Patrol department, said:
“This is an incredibly tragic incident involving two young men with their entire lives ahead of them.
‘Our thoughts are with the families of the young men and those close to them as they try to come to terms with today’s devastating news.

Flowers have been left at the scene and the relatives of the victims are being attended by specialist agents
We will support them in any way we can and ask that the family’s privacy be respected.
