Chilling surveillance footage shows the moment a masked teenager runs through the streets with a family cat hours before his body was found dead in a nearby pond.
Police alleged that two boys, aged 12 and 14, took the cat from a home in Glenwood, western Sydney, at around 4:30pm on March 8, 2023.
Supposedly, the cat was taken to a nearby clearing and then tortured and killed.
The feline’s heartbroken owners reviewed security footage after their 17-year-old cat Brandy failed to return home last Wednesday.
The footage shows two teenagers running away with a neighborhood cat. It is alleged that they then tortured and killed the furry cat before dumping it in a pond.
Emily Bidart, 28, was just 11 years old when Brandy joined the family.
She told 7News that everyone in the neighborhood knew Brandy as “the weird cat” who hangs out in the park across the street.
Now that same park brings with it the heartbreaking memory of the attack.
“I looked out my bedroom window at my mother’s house and that’s exactly where she (allegedly) was killed,” Bidart said.
Bidart said he drove to his parents’ home in Glenwood last Wednesday and had a feeling something was wrong when he heard Brandy was missing and immediately checked the security cameras.
CCTV footage showed minutes after Bidart’s mother left the house to go on a date, two children were searching for the cat, under cars and in the garden.
A boy is seen running around and supposedly saying, ‘Do you want to go cat?’.
Some 23 minutes later, a boy returns wearing a hoodie and full face mask before allegedly snatching the family cat from the front lawn.
Bidart said that when he saw what happened next, he had to look the other way.
“As soon as I (supposedly) saw the first hit on my cat, I had to look away,” he said.

Both boys were charged with torturing, beating and causing the death of an animal and disposing of a killed or stolen animal. They were granted strict probation and will appear in juvenile court on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
The two teenagers were charged with animal cruelty after the family was able to trace CCTV vision of the neighborhood to their address.
