Two bodyguards of Cristiano Ronaldo ‘investigated for providing security without authorization’

Cristiano Ronaldo’s twin bodyguards are under investigation in Portugal for working illegally for the superstar, local reports say.

Brothers Sergio and Jorge Ramalheiro, who previously served in an elite special forces unit in Afghanistan, are on unpaid leave from Portuguese police while carrying out private security for the Manchester United striker.

But it is illegal to work in Portugal during their furlough without permission from the Corps, according to Observer.

The pair could even face charges for providing unauthorized personal protection and will face disciplinary proceedings if they return to public security police, reports said.

They were investigated after being seen twice while on leave for Ronaldo in Lisbon.

An insider told the mirror that conducting private security without a police license can lead to a prison sentence of up to five years.

People who hire bodyguards without a license can also be prosecuted in Portugal.

A police spokesman said: “We are not commenting on cases under investigation.”

There is no suggestion that Ronaldo is suspected of any wrongdoing.

The 36-year-old footballer who returned to United in August was guarded by the brothers in September shortly after they were hired as he prepared to fly with the squad to Switzerland for a Champions League game.

One of the twins was also spotted last month at a birthday party hosted by Ronaldo’s pregnant girlfriend Georgia Rodriguez for their daughter Alana Martina, four, in Madrid.

The Ramalheiro brothers previously worked for a Portuguese police unit protecting judges and politicians.

Portuguese celebrity magazine Flash said the twins, part of triplets, were hired by Cristiano after they asked the police to go on leave to pursue other interests.

The third brother, named Alexandre, still works as a police officer.

An insider told local media: “Sergio and Jorge dress elegantly and look very normal.

“They can mingle with the crowd, but think, see and act quickly at the right time.”

Cristiano’s security team accompanied him to Manchester Airport for the start of his team’s Champions League campaign against Swiss team Young Boys.

Former paratrooper Nuno Marecos helped keep the footballer safe when he played for Spain’s Real Madrid.

When his identity became public in June 2018, Nuno was described as the leader of a group of bullfighters in a town near Lisbon.
