Some of the ads on Twitter don’t look quite right. Several users of the platform’s mobile app say they are seeing an image of the Twitter logo instead of the paid ad. Amazon, Darlingand the sportswear company on going.
Ads affected by this issue display the advertiser’s name, along with what appears to be the intended title. However, instead of linking to the advertiser’s website, blocked ads link to twitter.com and have “DPA_Placeholder” as the link header. In advertising, DPA stands for “dynamic product ads,” which suggests there might be an issue affecting Twitter’s ability to display the right ads.
So far, the issue only seems to affect mobile ads from the main Amazon account and your Amazon Fashion sub-brand, along with On Running and Sky. A search for “DPA_Placeholder” on Twitter revealed that a New Balance ad was also affected by the issue in August 2022.
Some of Amazon’s ads received more than 15 million views, according to user screenshot view counters, while On Running and Sky ads reached more than 1 million people. It’s not clear how many people saw the ads without the correct content or exactly what is causing the problem. Either way, it’s not a great look for a platform trying to woo advertisers and just hired advertising executive Linda Yaccarino as its CEO to mend those broken relationships.
