Glen Powell paid tribute to the late Bill Paxton, who starred in the original Twister film in 1996.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Hit Man star wrote: ‘As we release Twisters into the world today, I just wanted to look up and tip my hat to the legend that is Bill Paxton.
“A great friend of mine who saw poetry in the natural world. It’s impossible to fill his shoes, but this life is about chasing the greats.”
He shared a photo of himself and Bill, in which they are seen smiling at the camera while wearing cowboy hats and standing in front of a field of grass.
The new Twisters movie debuted in theaters on July 19 and also stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Kiernan Shipka and Paxton’s son, James Paxton.

Previously, the Anyone But You actor said his new film is neither a sequel nor a reboot.
“It’s definitely not a reboot. We’re not trying to recreate the story of the first one,” Glen shared with Fashion last year.
“It’s a completely original story. There are no characters from the original film, so it’s not really a sequel. It’s just a standalone story set in the present day.”
“I don’t think anyone has mentioned this movie in a long time, but when I talk to people, they say, ‘That was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid. That movie terrified me,'” he continued.
According to a synopsis of the film, “Haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado, Kate Cooper is lured back to the open plains by her friend, Javi, to test an innovative new tracking system.
‘She soon crosses paths with Tyler Owens, a charming but reckless social media superstar who enjoys posting about his storm-chasing adventures.
‘As storm season intensifies, Kate, Tyler and their competing teams find themselves in a fight for their lives as multiple systems converge on central Oklahoma.’
Powell’s latest cinematic venture is being hailed by critics as the “summer blockbuster” as the tornado movie hits theaters nearly 30 years after the original.
The standards Maddy Mussen described Twisters as “exciting and emotional parts” and called Daisy and Glenn “natural leads” in her five-star review of the film that left her “wanting more.”
The Independent’Clarisse Loughrey was also impressed, giving the film four out of five stars, stating that the story is “intense to the point of being scary.”
