A western Sydney man has pleaded guilty in court to destroying hundreds of dollars’ worth of meat by urinating on the shelves of a Woolworths in the CBD.

Lochlan James Ebejer, 22, was arrested and charged early Sunday morning following a public appeal for information following a bizarre incident inside the supermarket on the corner of George and Park streets in Sydney on July 1.

Police said the Sadleir man entered the store and urinated on the products, causing more than $311 worth of damage to various meat products, according to court documents.

Footage of the incident, released as part of the public appeal, showed Ebejer tying his trousers with a drawstring as he exited the escalator shortly before midnight.

Supermarket workers had to spend several hours decontaminating the area after the incident.

Last week, police released CCTV footage as part of an appeal for information and Ebejer was arrested in Hunters Hill early on Sunday morning.

He was charged with contaminating property with intent to cause public alarm and trespassing.

He was granted bail after appearing in Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.

On Tuesday, in Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court, his lawyer Liam McKibbin pleaded guilty to one count of contaminating property with intent to cause public alarm and one count of trespassing.

The case was adjourned until August 30 for a ruling.

Mr McKibbin told the court he would be making an application on mental health grounds for Ebejer to be discharged into the care of a responsible person.

Ebejer was also charged with offensive conduct while on fenced land, and Mr McKibbin told the court that appeared to be duplicative and he would seek to have it withdrawn.

Ebejer will return to court next month.
