The parents of two twin babies have been charged in connection with their deaths after an autopsy revealed they were beaten and deprived of food.
Angelina Belinda Calderon and Fernando Vega, both 21, were arrested Friday for abuse that led to the death of their six-week-old twin daughters.
Houston police were called to their home at 2107 Linden Creek Way around 11:15 a.m. on Oct. 4 and found the babies unresponsive.
Vega said he had dropped Calderón off at work and then returned home to find the twins were not breathing, however, the autopsy determined the children died from multiple injuries caused by a blunt object, he reported. KTRK.
‘The accusations are supposedly horrible. “These two children were approximately six weeks old and appeared to be suffering from blunt force injuries, severe malnutrition, and old and new injuries to both children,” said Deputy District Attorney Appelbaum. KPRC.

“Pretty alarming and, as I say, it’s due to the fact that these injuries and the fact that they were malnourished are things that a reasonable caregiver should have been aware of and that’s why they’re being charged with that part of omission.”
Vega told police the twins were “restless” throughout the night and he put them in a bassinet.
Calderon did not wake the babies in the morning because he was on his way to work, according to court documents.
Police said the babies were found on the couch with discolored skin, multiple bruises and bruises, and one of the girls had fractures.
The babies were born prematurely, but had not received medical care since they were released from the hospital, according to court documents.
Dr. Jesus Rico, a pathologist with the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences performed the autopsy and found several injuries on one of the babies, including dehydration, bruises on various parts of the body and fractures that indicated previous abuse.
Both twins were found to be malnourished, with one showing evidence of acute brain hemorrhage and the other suffering hemorrhage in the brain and spinal cord, indicating recent trauma, he reported. KPRC.
Calderon and Vega were charged with causing serious bodily injury to a child and are both being held in the Harris County Jail on $750,000 bail.
Vega’s defense lawyer, Mario Madrid, said: “He seemed to be in shock, the moment was big for him and I found him very respectful of the court.” But at the same time he seemed to be a little scared by the charges against him.’
The father has a court hearing scheduled for May 29 and the mother’s next appearance is scheduled for Friday.
Calderon’s sister told the local news station, “she is one of the best mothers I know,” and insisted that her sister was at work the day the children died.
