The media personality, 80, took to Facebook to share a photo of himself and his partner Lynda Stoner on Christmas Day while giving a glimpse of their celebrations.

However, Derryn could be seen with huge bruises on her face in the image and shared in a caption how she ended up with two black eyes after suffering a fall.

The accident happened just days before Christmas, but he waited until Boxing Day to reveal the extent of his injuries because he did not want to share “bad news” over the festive period.

Alongside the photo of him and Lynda, he wrote: “I didn’t post this photo earlier because I didn’t want to give bad news at Christmas.”

“I had a fall before Christmas, bumped my nose and as a result both of my eyes were black.

Despite his painful injuries, Derryn seemed to be in good spirits on Christmas Day and flashed a big smile while having lunch with Lynda.

Derryn and Lynda were first engaged to be married in 1981, but sadly went their separate ways.

However, they rekindled their romance 35 years later in 2016, and have been going strong ever since.

His shocking fall comes just weeks after the former Australian senator was admitted to hospital with a heart problem.

He had been suffering from atrial fibrillation, also known as an irregular heartbeat, and underwent electroshock therapy to restore his heart rhythm.

After being diagnosed a month ago, Derryn was treated at a Melbourne hospital and discharged the same day.

“I found myself out of breath and thought ‘this is not normal,’ so I went to my doctor and had an ECG (electrocardiogram),” he told the Herald of the sun.

“My cardiologist checked me into the hospital and on Thursday they gave me an electric shock to my heart, which is pretty scary, but it worked,” he continued.

“My heart is back to a regular rhythm and I will see how my breathing improves in the coming weeks.”

Derryn also recently underwent five weeks of daily radiation treatment amid a “pretty serious” battle with skin cancer.

Doctors first discovered melanoma just below her hairline in February and removed it, but doctors were not able to remove the entire area.

He then visited the Peter MacCallum Cancer Center to undergo further surgery to remove the melanoma and is now receiving radiation as “insurance”.

‘It’s not good. “I’ve had two operations on my face and they still have to do radiation,” he told the newspaper. Herald of the sun.

‘The only good news is that they examined a spot I had surgery on about eight years ago on the other side (of his forehead) and that’s clear.

‘I mark each day and once that day passes, it disappears. It’s pretty serious, but as someone once said, that’s life.’
