“We’ve been through something catastrophic and extremely traumatic and this may sound stupid, but we’re living our best life and we’re happy.

“We have these beautiful children together, and although we are not perfect, we accept each other.”

Turia added that like all couples, they have ups and downs but love each other for all their qualities, good ones and less good ones.

“It’s very easy to like someone for their good qualities and to want to change their not so sparkly qualities. We’re good at accepting each other for who we are,” she said.

Turia suffered horrific burns to 64 percent of her body when she was caught in a forest fire in Western Australia during an ultramarathon in 2011.

She welcomed her first son, Hakavai, with long-term partner Michael in December 2017.
