A man has been charged with drink-driving after allegedly hitting an elderly pedestrian who later died in hospital.
Police allege the man was driving a black Mazda hatchback in the Gold Coast town of Tugun when he hit an 83-year-old woman on Saturday night.
The 30-year-old man allegedly left the scene but police found him inside his car outside a Currumbin home, a short distance from the crash site.
The pedestrian, who was visiting from overseas, was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition and died on Sunday night.

The Currumbin man has been charged with drink-driving and will face Coolangatta Magistrates Court on March 25.
Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to come forward.
