In Trying, Rafe and Esther play couple Jason Ross and Nikki Newman who want to be parents, but struggle to conceive a child.

Rafe previously admitted that he loved filming the show because he got to spend time with Esther.

Speaking in July 2022, he said: “I get to hang out with Esther all day. We really get along. “She’s my favorite person I’ve ever acted with.”

He also said: ‘People often comment on the chemistry we have. “I’m really glad people enjoy it, but they won’t enjoy it as much as we do.”

In addition to Trying, Esther is best known for appearing in Uncle and Cuckoo, as well as playing Delphi Diggory in the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

In the next series of Trying, which first aired in 2020, the couple’s lives move forward six years.

Nikki (Smith) and Jason (Spall) are experienced adopters who have built a lovely little nuclear family, enriched by an extraordinary support network.
