Donald Trump responded to President Joe Biden for calling his MAGA supporters “trash” with a spectacular nine-word comment.
“You can’t lead America if you don’t love Americans,” Trump told a crowd of supporters at a rally in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, on Wednesday.
“And you can’t be president if you hate the American people,” he continued.
Biden compared MAGA supporters to trash while discussing comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s joke about Puerto Rico is a “garbage island” during Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden in New York.
“The only trash I see floating around is his supporters,” Biden said of Trump in a fundraising Zoom Tuesday night.
Biden’s comment was quickly rejected by Kamala Harris, but not before setting off a storm of negative headlines similar to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 comment calling the same Trump supporters “deplorables.”

“My supporters are much better quality than cooked Joe,” Trump continued, speaking to his MAGA faithful in North Carolina.
“They have treated you like garbage because they are tremendously incompetent people.”
In clarifying the comment, the White House immediately said the president was referring only to Hinchcliffe and not all Trump supporters.
Harris became defensive when pressed about her boss’s comments Wednesday.
“He clarified his comments, but let me be clear: I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for,” she told reporters.
“I will be a president for all Americans, whether they vote for me or not,” she added.
“That’s my responsibility and that’s the kind of work I’ve done my entire career and I take it very seriously.”

With just six days until Election Day, Trump stopped in North Carolina ahead of a rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin, later in the evening.
The vice president said she spoke with Biden on Tuesday night, but the topic did not come up.
Trump had apparently first mentioned the phrase in a late-night social media post on Tuesday night.
“While I lead a campaign of positive solutions to save America, Kamala Harris is running a campaign of hate,” the former president wrote. “He’s spent all week comparing his political opponents to the most evil mass murderers in history.”

Trump also played a supercut video showing Harris saying his name two dozen times during a speech she gave Tuesday night from the Ellipse.
“Now, on top of everything, Joe Biden calls our supporters ‘trash’.” You can’t lead America if you don’t love the American people. “Kamala Harris and Joe Biden have proven that they are both unfit to be president of the United States.”
Also at the afternoon rally, the 45th president complained about Harris’ speech Tuesday night on the White House Ellipse.
“The only thing he talked about was Donald Trump,” he said.
