Trump’s lawyer guarantees no copies of classified documents recovered from Mar-a-Lago remain in the former president’s possession
- James Trusty has confirmed that his client does not have any copies of classified material removed from Mar-a-Lago over the summer
- He also denied reports that Trump was responsible for compiling the material
- This comes as investigations against the former president escalate following his recent indictment in the Stormy Daniels case
Donald Trump’s attorney representing him in the case involving classified documents found on the Mar-a-Lago estate confirmed that the former president no longer had any copies of those materials.
James Trusty also defended his client against reports alleging that Trump helped unload these boxes of sensitive materials.
There is intense scrutiny involving CEOs’ handling of presidential materials after classified documents were found in the homes of Trump, his former Vice President Mike Pence and President Joe Biden.
Trump is also under fire from opponents now that he has become the first president in US history to be indicted after a grand jury moved to indict him in the Stormy Daniels cash payment case at the end of last month.
James Trusty, Donald Trump’s attorney in the classified documents case, has confirmed that his client does not have any copies of the classified materials removed from Mar-a-Lago over the summer.
The former president insists there was nothing wrong with him transporting the documents to his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida — despite a Presidential Records Act that requires all materials to be turned over to the National Archives for safekeeping.
Can you guarantee that no copies of these classified documents – are still in Mar a Lago? Do you know this for the fact that now they — there are no more classified documents in Mar-A-Lago right now? NBC Meet the Press host Chuck Todd grilled Trump’s attorney during an interview Sunday morning.
“Yeah, sure,” Trusty shrugged.
He added, “I can tell you that leaking about what happened with this additional document or many of the documents found on the thumb drive is absurd.” “We actually have a federal prosecutor who’s been in court and he’s completely mischaracterized that.”
It was the same mischaracterization that the media used to suggest that President Trump is sitting on a mountain of documents. This is not true at all. It was a completely harmless situation.
He also dismissed claims from other reports that Trump was somehow directly involved in packing and unpacking boxes of these documents that were recovered in the FBI raid on his Florida property over the summer.
“Do you know for sure whether or not the former president was involved in unloading and moving boxes?” Subtract Todd.
‘I mean, can you imagine?’ Trust return. I mean, does anyone in their right mind really believe that Donald Trump came down to Mar-a-Lago while he was still president, I think, in January and said, “Hey, those are the boxes you packed.” Let’s be careful with those. This goes in the dining room. This goes in the closet “?”

The FBI has conducted an unprecedented raid on Trump’s home in Florida to recover classified documents he took after the end of his presidency. In the following months, sensitive documents were also found in the home of President Joe Biden and former Vice President Mike Pence
Trusty said that while Trump said during an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity that he had a “right” to do so, he did not actually engage in the activity.
He didn’t pack the boxes, Trusty insisted. ‘Come here. I mean, it’s silly to think of that.
After a brief exchange with Todd, Trusty said Trump was “indicating that it is not illegal for a president to possess documents like this.”
The bottom line is — I’ll make it clear to you because you seem to be struggling with that — President Trump didn’t just sit there with duct tape and Sharpies and say, ‘Hey, let’s sit down Indian-style and start packing up these boxes and sending them to Mar-a-Lago.
