Trump's last words before and after the shooting: "Let me get my shoes"

Former President Donald Trump was comparing his record of shutting down illegal immigration to President Joe Biden’s open border policies immediately before an assassination attempt at his rally in Pennsylvania.

Trump told the crowd: “If you really want to see something that sad, take a look at what happened,” he said immediately before being interrupted when eight to 10 shots rang out.

Midway through his sentence, Trump grabbed his right ear as blood poured from his face and crouched down.

US Secret Service agents immediately rushed to the scene in Butler, Pennsylvania, to protect the former president. They quickly assessed Trump as he lay pinned to the ground and were heard confirming that “the shooter was down” before moving him.

“Let me get my shoes,” Trump was heard saying as officers helped him to his feet.

“Let me get my shoes,” Trump was heard saying as officers held him down.

He then raised his clenched fist forcefully as blood ran down the right side of his face.

Trump was rushed to a local hospital and treated for his gunshot wound.

He posted a statement on Truth Social confirming that he was hit by a bullet, while thanking the Secret Service and law enforcement for their “quick response to the shooting that just occurred in Butler, Pennsylvania.”

‘Most importantly, I want to express my condolences to the family of the person who died in the demonstration, and also to the family of another person who was seriously injured.’

“It’s unbelievable that such an act could happen in our country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that went through the top of my right ear. I knew immediately something was wrong because I heard a whistling sound, gunshots, and immediately felt the bullet go through my skin. There was a lot of bleeding so I realized what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”

Trump is expected to address his assembled delegates, who will formally nominate him to become the Republican Party’s nominee for president.
