Donald Trump Jr. has revealed what happened after the attempted assassination of his father last weekend in Pennsylvania.
In an interview with CNN, the Republican candidate’s eldest son said he was with his children when he received a call informing him that his father had been shot.
Trump was wounded in the ear and one of his supporters was killed after crazed gunman Thomas Crooks opened fire at a rally in an apparent assassination attempt. Crooks, 20, was shot dead by undercover snipers seconds after the shooting began.
On Monday, Trump appeared at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, ahead of his speech on Thursday.
Trump Jr. said it took 90 minutes from when he first received the call about the shooting until he was able to speak to his father. “He was a little shaken up, but very determined. He was joking about it, in a way that only my father can do.”

Earlier, Trump Jr. was involved in a heated exchange with an MSNBC reporter on the convention floor over the Trump administration family separation policy.
In a previous interview with a far-right media outlet Newsmax, Trump Jr. gave more details about his experience surrounding the shooting.
“I was with my kids, just being a dad, and Kim called me and said, ‘Your dad’s been shot,’ but that was literally the only information we had. I didn’t hear anything for a while,” he said.
“I tried to call everyone, I just wanted my kids to come home and be safe. They weren’t sure if it was anything more serious.”
“Nobody really knew what to expect and it took me about 90 minutes to get anyone to have any kind of information or any kind of detail. So, as you can imagine, it was an interesting time.”
“I knew he had been shot, but I didn’t have any further details or any real information. I couldn’t get in touch with anyone on the team. So it was a pretty tough and somber night.”
Donald Trump was greeted by family and close allies during a long, sociable entrance to the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Monday night.
Trump Jr. told Newsmax that his father was “in very good spirits” but understood the gravity of the shooting.
‘I just said, you know, man, that fist up, that fight after getting shot… everybody thinks he’s a tough guy, especially nowadays with the Internet.’
“But seeing that, I could tell he had real determination. And I said, ‘Man, I think you’re the baddest guy I’ve ever met.’ And I couldn’t be more proud to be your son.” And that was kind of an icebreaker.
“And finally, everyone said, ‘Well, we can be a family and have some fun… It was a very long 90 minutes,'” he added.
“But it was after that conversation that you sat down and started watching the videos and reading the stories and that’s when it finally hit you, when that adrenaline rush finally hit. And that was pretty devastating.”
