President Donald Trump Signed the Riley Act Cloth on Wednesday in the Law and stated that he encounters ‘cruel criminals’, including the illegal migrant who killed the 22-year-old nursing student last year.
It is the first legislation he has signed in the law since he returned to the White House.
The law, named after the killed Georgia nurse student, requires the detention of unauthorized immigrants accused of theft and violent crimes.
The president was accompanied by the parents of Laeken, Jason Riley and Allyson Phillips, at the signing and her sister Lauren.
‘So sad … We were immediately after that happened, and it is a huge tribute to your daughter what happened today. That is all I can say … but so sad that we have to do it all, “he added.
The new law will ensure that the ‘horrible cruelty’ will never happen again, Trump continued.
‘It’s a milestone law that we do today. It will save countless innocent American lives. ‘
It also enables individual states to sue the federal government if they or her citizens are damaged by immigration -related actions.
Riley, 22, was a student at Augusta University College of Nursing when she started running on 22 February 2024. She came across Jose Antonio Ibarra, a Venezuelan subject in the US who killed her illegally during a struggle. He was found guilty and eventually convicted of life in prison.
Democratic senator John Fetterman, who co-sponsored the legislation, was seen applauding during the formal ceremony while wore his characteristic black hoodie.
He visibly looked emotionally during the event and skipped his arms with a gloomy expression while Trump described the horrible details of Riley’s death.

Fetterman, who is known to split with his party about immigration and the Israeli war, became the first Democratic senator to support the Gop bill.
Shortly after the announcement of Fetterman, Senator Gary Peters, D-Mich., Also said that he would support the law in the Senate. Many others soon followed as Sens. Ruben Gallego, Mark Kelly, Mark Warner and more.
Legislers who voted for the Riley Act cloth – including 48 members of the house and 12 Senate Democrats – were invited.
The name Van Laken became a rally group for Republicans during the presidential campaign of 2024. During the last state of the Union address of President Joe Biden, the Republican Congressman Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia demanded that the president “says her name.”
During his campaign, Trump promised to combat illegal migration and used the fact that Ibarra had a criminal record to make the Biden administration.
Ibarra was arrested for illegal access in September 2022 near El Paso, Texas, amid an unprecedented increase in migration and released to pursue his case in the Immigration Court.
Moreover, he was arrested in New York for the endangering of a child and he was cited in Georgia for shoplifting, but was not held by immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) before the murder of Riley.
Trump and Republicans blame Riley about Biden and his immigration policy.
The president has hinted that more such legislation could come.
“This shows the potential for additional enforcement accounts that will help us to combat criminal aliens and to fully restore the rule of law in our country,” Trump told Monday during a conference in his Miami Doral Golf Club.
