President-elect Donald Trump is expected to announce that he has chosen Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.
That announcement will send shockwaves through the public health sector, as Kennedy is a prominent anti-vaxxer and has pushed conspiracy theories on a number of health-related topics.
DailyMail.com previously reported that Dr. Ben Carson, a respected surgeon turned 2016 presidential candidate, was in the mix. Carson was also nearly elected vice president.
But Kennedy boosted Trump’s 2024 bid by suspending his independent presidential campaign the day after the Democratic National Convention concluded in August, telling his supporters to back the Republican in key states.
Kennedy later embraced Trump even more, telling his supporters across America to rally behind Trump, arguing that they had a vision to “Make America Healthy Again.”
President-elect Donald Trump (R) is expected to announce that he has chosen Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (L) to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., 70, shared a shirtless photo of himself during his 2024 independent presidential campaign, trying to prove that he was on top of health without using vaccines.
Kennedy launched his presidential bid in March 2023 as a Democrat, but when he didn’t gain much traction in the party, he announced an independent candidacy in October.
He is the son of the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy and the nephew of the late President John F. Kennedy, both of whom were assassinated in the 1960s.
RFK Jr. contacted Trump about a possible endorsement following the president-elect’s own brush with death at the hands of a gunman in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13.
Kennedy then traveled to Milwaukee while the Republican National Convention was underway in the days after the July shooting, but canceled planned counterprogramming for his own presidential run when he initiated dialogue about joining Trump’s team.
He officially made the announcement the morning after Vice President Kamala Harris officially became the Democratic nominee, which took his breath away.
Most of her famous family supported President Joe Biden, and then Harris, and her siblings issued multiple statements throughout the election cycle expressing their anger and disappointment.
