Trump praises his new & # 39; acting & # 39; Attorney General Matt Whitaker as & # 39; highly thought of & # 39;
President Donald Trump defended his decision to call Matt Whitaker as "acting attorney general" with oversight of the Robert Mueller survey – and says the two men never discussed the subject.
"I do not know Whitaker," Trump told reporters about the south of the White House while he went to Paris.
He called Whitaker & # 39; Highly Discussed & # 39; but once denied taking his pulse on the Russian probe – which he will now oversee as a result of Trump's decision to ban Attorney General Jeff Sessions and nike surveillance given by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
& # 39; I did not speak to Matt Whitaker & # 39; on the issue of Mueller, President Trump said
& # 39; I did not talk about it with Matt Whitaker. I do not know Matt Whitaker. Matt Whitaker has a great reputation and that's what I wanted, "Trump said.
Trump picked Whitaker from his position as chief of staff for Jeff Sessions.
"When Sessions left what I did, I just took a man who worked for Sessions," Trump said.
& # 39; I did not speak to Matt Whitaker & # 39; about the probe from Mueller, & # 39; said Trump.
Trump also pushed back complaints from Democrats and Conservative lawyers that it is unlawful and unconstitutional for Whitaker to be the country's highest law enforcement official since he has not been confirmed by the Senate to a post of the Ministry of Justice.
& # 39; He was confirmed at the highest level, & # 39; said Trump, pointing to his confirmation in 2004 as federal attorney in Iowa.
That is a relatively junior job – there are 93 American lawyers and it happened 14 years ago.

LOYALIST: Matt Whitaker, former Chief of Staff of Sessions, has taken over the supervision of the Russian probe. He has criticized it in the past and talked about lowering his funding. He was not confirmed by the Senate for his function

Trump noted that Mueller had not been confirmed by the Senate either, "so do not talk to me about Whitaker." However, Mueller reports to Senate confirmed appointees – he has previously reported to the deputy attorney general, Rod Rosenstein, who was confirmed by the Senate.
The fight over the validity of the appointment comes when Democrats cry that the chess movements are part of a Trump plan to seize control of the Mueller probe.
Whitaker has wiped out the importance of the Donald Trump Jr. meeting with Russians. & # 39; You would always hold that meeting, & # 39; he said. He mentioned an article about the Mueller lynch mob & # 39; – words that were in the head – & # 39; worth reading & # 39 ;. He also said that there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians.
Trump also said that although I like the former New York governor Chris Christie & # 39 ;, he did not talk to him about being a candidate to replace Sessions.
Democratic attorneys general for 17 states and Washington, D.C., wrote Whitaker Thursday and demanded that he withdraw from the Russian probe – something Sessions had done, which made President Trump angry.
George Conway III, a prominent lawyer, wrote an opinion in the New York Times with former lawyer Neal Katyal, arguing that Trump's power play on the Ministry of Justice & # 39; unconstitutional & # 39; is.
Whitaker has spoken critically about the Mueller's probe and in a TV interview talked about stifling funding.
He was also not confirmed by the Senate, because he does not have one of the top positions that meet this bar. According to Conway, this is contrary to the appointment clause of the constitution.
& # 39; The installation of Whitaker makes a mockery of our constitution and the ideals of our founders, "wrote the men.
The installation by President Trump of Matthew Whitaker as Acting Attorney General of the United States after he enforced the resignation of Jeff Sessions is unconstitutional & # 39 ;, they wrote. & # 39; It is illegal. And it means that everything Mr. Whitaker is doing or trying to do in that position is invalid.
