Donald Trump appears set to make good on a promise ‘border czar’ Tom Homan made when launching his mass deportation program in Democratic-run Chicago shortly after his inauguration.
However, the Windy City is not alone, according to a person with knowledge of the plans, as multi-day raids will take place from coast to coast.
“We are going to carry out operations throughout the country,” the person told Reuters on Friday. ‘You’re going to see arrests in New York. You’re going to see arrests in Miami.’
Chicago appears to be first on the list, having seen more than 50,000 immigrants flock to the Windy City since August 2022, and following Trump’s election in November, Mayor Brandon Johnson defended sanctuary status of the city, as he declared that he would not allow the police to enter. assist federal ICE agents.
In December, Homan said Chicago would be the first city willing to expel illegal immigrants.
A raid is expected to begin Tuesday morning, less than 24 hours after Trump’s second inauguration.
ICE will carry out the raid for an entire week and will send between 100 and 200 agents to handle the job, Wall Street Journal reported.
It is not yet clear how many people will be targeted, but the New York Post has reported that the operation will also extend to the Big Apple as part of ‘ground operations’ lasting several days.

The Windy City was chosen because of Trump’s exchanges with Johnson on the issue and the large number of immigrants they can extract.
Trump’s transition team, ICE, Mayor Johnson and Democratic Illinois Governor JB Pritzker have not commented on the alleged plan.
Homan, 63, former acting head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement during Trump’s first term, laid out his plans to expel immigrants who crossed the southern border illegally.
“Chicago is in trouble because their mayor sucks and their governor sucks,” Homan told the crowd. at the GOP Christmas party on the Northwest Side, where attendees included Pritzker and Johnson.
He went on to call them both “terrible,” while urging them to follow in New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ footsteps and “come to the table” to discuss, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Homan also warned Johnson, who had vowed to fight the Trump administration’s deportation plan, not to “impede” his efforts.
“If he doesn’t want to help, get out of the way,” Homan said.
“If you knowingly harbor or conceal an illegal alien, I will prosecute you.”

He criticized Illinois Governor JB Pritzker (left) and Mayor Brandon Johnson (right) for refusing to help the Trump administration in its deportation effort.
Homan went on to explain what Trump’s deportation efforts entail.
Immigrants who have committed crimes while in the United States will be the first to be targeted, followed by legal immigrants, including asylum seekers and those who entered the United States on humanitarian parole under the Biden administration.
Homan has said he will work to verify the status of asylum seekers and arrest anyone harboring criminal immigrants.
He also reiterated that there is no plan to separate families, although he suggested that “it can happen.”
“My goal is to enforce the law, but if you put yourself in that position, it can happen,” the incoming border czar said. “But right now there is no plan in this administration to separate families.”
‘However, we will enforce the law. So if you put yourself in that position, it’s up to you,’ he said, stating that the parents of Dreamers – the children of immigrants born in the United States – have two options.
“You can take a child home with you or just stay here,” Homan said. “But you don’t get a pass.”
He also said those who did not qualify for asylum through the court system would be ordered deported.

Williany Sánchez, 18, pushes his son Manuel Carvojal, 3, as he walks with his husband Danilson Carvojal, 20, outside a migrant shelter on Chicago’s Lower West Side.
‘If we don’t, what the hell are we doing? Close the immigration court? he asked, rhetorically.
‘There are no more consequences. We have to eliminate them if the law requires it.”
Homan then criticized media coverage of Trump’s deportation plan and denied it was racist.
“We know exactly who we are going to arrest,” he said. Most likely we know where we are going to find them. We know a lot about them thanks to the research files.
‘So it’s not a raid, it’s not an uncontrolled operation. “It’s a very specific operation.”
Governor Pritzker is in talks with Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s office to explore what legal resources or personnel they will need to challenge Trump’s policies, including his plan to withhold federal grants for police.
He had called any such recourse “illegal” and promised to take legal action.
“To anyone who seeks to take away the freedom, opportunity and dignity of Illinoisans, I would remind them that a happy warrior is still a warrior,” he said after Trump’s election victory.

‘You are coming for my people. You come through me.’
But following Homan’s comments on Monday, Pritzker took a less combative approach.
“It’s no secret that Illinois will face countless baseless attacks over the next four years from the Trump administration,” said spokesman Alex Gough.
“Instead of responding to every ridiculous boast from Trump’s lackeys, Governor Pritzker is focusing on what he focused on during Trump’s first term: leading our state with competence rather than chaos.”
However, U.S. Rep. Delia Ramirez, D-Chicago, was even more adamant.
“Tom Homan, next time you come to #IL03, a district that immigrants have made stronger and more powerful, you better be prepared to face the resistance,” he wrote on social media.
