President-elect Donald Trump has nominated controversial Florida congressman Matt Gaetz and has his nominee for Attorney General in a move sure to outrage Democrats and even surprise some Republicans in Washington.
Gaetz is a Republican firebrand who has targeted both Republican and Democratic members of the House of Representatives, as he remains a close ally of the former president.
“It is my great honor to announce that Congressman Matt Gaetz of Florida is nominated to be Attorney General of the United States,” Trump wrote in Truth Social.
“Matt is a tenacious and deeply talented lawyer, trained at William & Mary Law School, who has distinguished himself in Congress for his focus on achieving desperately needed reform at the Department of Justice,” he continued.
‘Few issues in America are more important than ending the partisan militarization of our justice system. “Matt will end armed government, secure our borders, dismantle criminal organizations, and restore Americans’ severely shattered faith and trust in the Department of Justice,” he continued.
