President-elect Donald Trump has officially named Elon Musk to head the newly created “Department of Government Efficiency.”

Trump issued a press release Tuesday night saying Musk will co-lead the “Manhattan Project of our time” with former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.

‘This will send shockwaves through the system and anyone involved in Government waste, which is a lot of people!’ Musk said in a statement.

Republicans have long complained about excessive government spending and Trump touted that DOGE will achieve its goals by July 4, 2026.

“A smaller government, with more efficiency and less bureaucracy, will be the perfect gift to America on the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence,” he wrote. ‘I’m sure they will succeed!’

Musk and Ramaswamy have become some of Trump’s top allies in the tech community.

Musk officially endorsed Trump immediately after the Republican’s assassination attempt on July 13 at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The head of SpaceX,

He put his money where his mouth was: offering a $1 million prize each day to registered voters in battleground states.

Musk was with Trump and his family members at his election night party at Mar-a-Lago and has since been seen in meetings with the president-elect as he finds out who is in his cabinet.

Ramaswamy began the 2024 election cycle by running for president himself, although he continued to praise the former president.

Unlike candidates like New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson and former Rep. Will Hurd, who were decidedly anti-Trump in the 2024 Republican primary, Ramaswamy touted the 78-year-old’s accomplishments in office .

When Trump appeared to be the heavy favorite before the first primaries, Ramaswamy never turned against the former president, like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the former UN ambassador. Nikki Haley, allowing her a comfortable landing spot in the Trump 2.0 White House.

Ramaswamy came in fourth in the Iowa caucuses, suspending his campaign immediately afterwards and endorsing Trump.

He previously wrote a popular right-wing book: Woke, Inc.: Inside Corporate America’s Social Justice Scam.

Both Musk and Ramaswamy are billionaires, but Musk’s net worth is estimated at $304 billion and Ramaswamy is only worth $1 billion.

“Republican politicians have dreamed of DOGE goals for a long time,” Trump said. ‘To drive this kind of dramatic change, the Department of Government Efficiency will provide advice and guidance from outside the government and will partner with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget to drive large-scale structural reforms and create an enterprise approach to Un government never seen before.’
