Former President Donald Trump on Saturday endorsed embattled Rep. Lauren Boebert amid her son’s legal troubles and the congresswoman’s complicated divorce saga.
Trump called the 37-year-old grandmother a “proven conservative” and “America’s first trusted fighter,” giving the Colorado Republican his “complete and total endorsement.”
The Republican front-runner’s endorsement for the 2024 presidency comes at a time when Boebert’s home and private life have overshadowed any congressional accomplishments.
Boebert’s 18-year-old son Tyler was released from jail Wednesday facing 22 charges, including five felonies, related to property thefts in the Rifle, Colo., area, and one victim said he now can’t afford to pay for brain surgery.
Her son’s legal troubles come in the months after the congresswoman finalized her divorce from her husband Jayson, whom Tyler called the police on in January after his father allegedly pushed and grabbed him.
On Saturday, former President Donald Trump (left) endorsed Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert (right), whose family and private life has produced a series of scandals in recent months.
In a Truth Social post, Trump called Boebert a “proven conservative” and “America’s First Trustworthy Fighter.”
Days Boebert later denied hitting her ex-husband at a Colorado restaurant after he made “lewd advances” toward her.
In September, the Colorado conservative was embroiled in a days-long scandal over her behavior with a date during a Denver performance of Beetlejuice the Musical.
Boebert and her date, Aspen bar owner Quinn Gallagher, were asked to leave the theater after she vaped and took photos during the performance.
Leaked footage of the incident also showed her groping Gallagher.
None of her family scandals deterred Trump from labeling her an “effective leader.”
In 2022, Boebert nearly lost her Republican-leaning district to Democrat Adam Frisch, beating him by just 546 votes.
Last February, Frisch said he planned to challenge Boebert again for her seat representing Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District.
Boebert’s son, Tyler (right), was released from jail Wednesday and has been charged with 22 crimes, including five felonies, related to property thefts in the Rifle, Colorado area.
In a Saturday X post, Boebert showed a draft of the Truth Social post that former President Donald Trump used to endorse her.
That move led Boebert to announce in December that she would run in 2024 for a different congressional seat in Colorado.
Instead, he will try to replace outgoing Republican Rep. Ken Buck in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, the most conservative district in the state.
Ten Republicans are currently vying for that seat, and the Denver Post reported in early February that Boebert began the year with a fundraising lead.
Still, Boebert came in fifth place in an informal poll among voters in his new district.
While Colorado voters will go to the polls on Tuesday to elect the president, the state’s congressional primary won’t take place until June 25, giving Boebert some time to gain ground.
He applauded Trump’s endorsement in posts on X on Saturday.
“I am honored to have the endorsement of the best president our country has ever known: Donald J. Trump,” he said. Colorado Republican said. ‘It will be a great privilege to work alongside him in 2024 to achieve results for Colorado and get the entire country back on track!’
In another post, he showed a draft of Trump’s Truth Social post and labeled it “MY President.”
