WHITE HOUSE ON NOTRE DAME FIRE
This morning President Donald J. Trump, on behalf of the American people, offered his condolences to President Emmanuel Macron of France for the destruction caused by the fire in Notre Dame de Paris cathedral. The United States stands with French citizens, the city of Paris and the millions of visitors from all over the world who seek comfort in that iconic structure. The cathedral has served as a spiritual home for almost a millennium and we are sad to witness the damage to this architectural masterpiece. Notre Dame will continue to serve as a symbol of France, including its freedom of religion and democracy. France is the oldest ally of the United States and we gratefully remember the bells of the bells of Notre Dame on September 12, 2001, in solemn recognition of the tragic attacks of September 11 on American soil. Those bubbles will sound again. We are today with France and offer our assistance in the rehabilitation of this irreplaceable symbol of Western civilization. Long live France!
& # 39; So terrible to see the huge fire in Notre Dame in Paris. Perhaps flying water tankers can be used to turn it off. Must act quickly! & # 39; Trump wrote on his way to Minnesota for an event about taxes.
Later, at his Tax Day event, Trump told a crowd about the & # 39; terrible, terrible fire & # 39 ;.
& # 39; The fire that they have in Notre Dame Cathedral is like few people have seen & # 39 ;, said the president. & # 39; When we left the plane, it burned at a level that you rarely see a fire burning. It is one of the great treasures of the world. & # 39;
Trump said the building could be & # 39; bigger than any museum in the world and it burns very badly & # 39 ;. He noted that he had seen it before.
& # 39; It looks like it's burning on the ground & # 39 ;, the president added, because firefighters had trouble controlling the fire.
Trump said he had a & # 39; communication & # 39; with France, but did not indicate whether he had spoken with the French authorities.
& # 39; That puts a damper on what we're going to say to be honest, & # 39; Trump told his audience in Minnesota. & # 39; Because that is over countries. That goes further than anything. That's part of our growing up, it's part of our culture, it's part of our life. That is really a great cathedral. And I've been there and I've seen it … There is probably no cathedral in the world like this. & # 39;
The president said the French believed the fire was related to the ongoing renovation of the 850-year-old cathedral.
& # 39; They think it is caused by renovation. And I hope that's the reason, & # 39; Trump continued. & # 39; Renewal. What is that all about? & # 39; Trump said. Then he called it a & # 39; terrible sight to behold & # 39 ;.

After Trump's tweet, the French government explained that droplets of air could cause the walls of the cathedral to implode, causing the structure to fall down and ruin the artwork inside.
French ambassador to the United States, Gerard Araud, told CNN: & # 39; It is not possible to use water tankers that can only aggravate the situation of the building. & # 39; He mentioned the difficulty of catching fire with intense heat and tons of wood as fuel. & # 39; So I think we should just pray now, & # 39; he said.
