The classified documents case against Donald Trump has been thrown out by a federal judge in a shock ruling less than 48 hours after he was shot.
The former president was accused of bringing highly sensitive files to Mar-a-Lago when he left the White House.
Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed the case based on “violations” of the Appointments Clause and the Appropriations Clause of the Constitution.
She claimed the appointment of special prosecutor Jack Smith was unconstitutional.
The decision has a huge impact on Trump’s legal battles, and he now faces just two criminal trials in Georgia and a federal court in Washington DC.
He is awaiting sentencing in New York after being found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records.
