Former President Donald Trump called Vice President Kamala Harris a “disaster,” saying President Joe Biden and Democrats wanted to replace her on the ticket.

Trump spoke about Harris and his own search for a vice presidential candidate during a interview Tuesday with WABC radio host Sid Rosenberg.

“Look, Biden is the worst president in the history of our country and he has a vice president who is a total disaster,” Trump said. “They want to change it, they’re dying to change it, but they’re afraid to change it.”

Trump argued that Biden and Harris constituted the worst leadership team in the country’s history.

“He’s got a disaster and it’s a disaster,” Trump said. “In history, there has never been a worse team than this one. In fact, they are less popular than him.

A Suffolk/USA today survey released Thursday showed Harris only had a 36 percent approval rating for her job while 52 percent disapproved of her performance.

Biden has a 41 percent approval rating in the same poll.

Democrats in Washington, D.C., quietly complain behind the scenes about Harris’ performance, but resist criticizing her publicly because of the historic nature of her serving as the first black woman vice president.

Political experts sometimes call for Harris to step down, calling her low approval ratings and public struggles bad for Biden’s re-election chances.

Kathleen Parker, Washington Post columnist wrote On Friday, “for the good of the country, Vice President Harris should step down,” saying she had become “a burden on the Democratic ticket.”

“Please, Madam Vice President, do this for your country,” Parker concluded.

Reports indicate that Biden never considered replacing Harris, knowing the sensitivities he experienced as vice president when Obama’s political advisers discussed replacing her on the 2012 list with the Secretary of State. State of the day, Hillary Clinton.

Publicly, Biden remains supportive of Harris, despite in private describing it as a “work in progress”.

Biden said Harris was a “historic vice president who was doing an incredible job,” during a White House event celebrating Women’s History Month on Monday.

Trump continues to weigh his choice of vice presidential nominee since he officially won the Republican nomination for president in 2024, but is in no rush to select anyone before the Republican National Convention in mid-2024. July.

He said during the interview that his number one priority was to choose someone who could take on the role and perform the duties of president.

“It’s very important that you choose the right person, in case something happens…things can happen and you want to have someone who can take on that role and be great,” he said.

Trump ridiculed a list of potential vice presidential candidates that was published Tuesday by Bloomberg and said was “not accurate at all.”

The list included North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, Rep. Elise Stefanik, former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson and former U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, while excluding entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

Trump has said he is not interested in choosing a vice presidential candidate to help him win the election.

“Historically, in terms of elections, it doesn’t help at all,” he said. “It’s amazing how little that is.”
