Trump calls New York a ‘ghost town’ as he demolishes Democratic coronavirus lockdowns

President Donald Trump called New York a “ ghost town ” when he hit democratic blocks during Thursday’s presidential debate for causing an economic crisis in cities like the Big Apple.

In the nasty debate, Trump accused Democratic candidate Joe Biden of trying to destroy the economy through lockdowns to curb the coronavirus crisis.

“If you’re going to look at what happened to New York, it’s a ghost town. Take a look at what’s happening to New York. It’s dying, ”Trump said on the debate stage in Nashville, Tennessee.

He pointed out how New York restaurants have been forced to adapt to coronavirus precautions, such as using plexiglass and minimizing indoor traffic.

“When you talk about plexiglass, these are restaurants that are dying. These are companies without money. Hanging Plexiglass is incredibly expensive, and it’s not the solution. I mean, are you going to sit there in a booth wrapped in plastic? ‘ he said.

“These are companies that are a dying Joe, you can’t do that to people,” he added in a direct jab at the Andrew Cuomo government’s strict measures.

Look at New York and what happened to my beautiful city. I enjoyed it for so many years, it was vibrant. It’s dying, everyone is leaving New York, ”the president said.

But Biden highlighted the human toll of the virus that has infected more than 8 million Americans.

“Look what New York has done in terms of lowering the curve, in terms of the number of people who die,” Biden said.

The former vice president said he doesn’t see ‘red states’ and ‘blue states’, but he did accuse GOP leaders of creating bigger coronavirus spikes with relaxed measures.

Look at the states that have such a spike in the coronavirus. It’s the red states, or the Midwestern states or the Upper Midwestern states – that’s where the spike occurs significantly, but they’re all Americans, ” Biden said.

Biden emphasized protective measures against the coronavirus, but also said companies needed financial help from the government to weather the pandemic.

Trump stressed that state-enforced lockdowns are not a guaranteed way to stop COVID-19 outbreaks.

Look at North Carolina. They have spikes and they are closed and they are being killed financially. We can’t let that happen, Joe. You can’t let that happen, ”he said.

Trump himself has contracted COVID-19, leading to the cancellation of the second official debate when it was made virtual, as did about three dozen members of the White House.
