Former President Trump smashed a CNN news report that claimed he turned down a meeting with a longtime supporter and fought Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz.

Fake News CNN, relying on all the anonymous sources, meaning they probably made up the whole thing, wrote a very dishonest story claiming Congressman Matt Gaetz asked to meet with me at Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Florida, and denied, ” Trump wrote on social media platform Gab.

CNNs report suggested that Gaetz, who is facing a federal investigation into sex trafficking allegations, was denied a meeting with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate because the ex-president and his allies wanted to deliberately distance themselves from the Florida congressman.

Gaetz staff at the time vigorously denied the report – and now Trump has weighed in on doing the same.

The report alleged that Gaetz had attempted to plan a visit to Trump after it was first revealed that he was under investigation, but the request was denied by aides who urged Trump not to stick his neck out to defend Gaetz.

On Sunday, Trump spokesman Jason Miller tweeted that Gaetz had not asked for a meeting “ and therefore it could never have been declined. ”

Also, in what appears to be an effort to save further embarrassment, Matt Gaetz’s team has since furiously denied seeking a meeting with Trump, but was turned down.

Gaetz, one of Trump’s most ardent fans, vehemently rejected the idea that the former president had turned him down.

This is a total lie. I have a planned vacation with my fiancé, ”he said.

Gaetz, 38, is reportedly under investigation by the Justice Department for his ties to accused sex trafficker Joel Greenberg.

Greenberg, a former tax collector in Seminole Country, Florida, is facing 33 cases, including stalking, identity theft and sex trafficking.

On Thursday, his lawyers said the 36-year-old, who is currently in prison for violating his bail, was working with prosecutors and ready to strike a plea deal – a move described by Greenberg’s team as worrying for Gaetz.

The House Ethics Committee announced Friday that it was opening an investigation into allegations that Gaetz was guilty of “ sexual misconduct and / or illegal drug use, ” shared lewd images on the House floor, and used campaign funds for personal use.

Notably, the Florida congressman has failed to garner the support of even those within his own party in his struggle for survival.

CNN’s reporting comes after the New York Times’ Maggie Haberman claimed the former president should be talked into giving Gaetz his full support.

His first impulse was that he wanted to defend Gaetz, you know, “ He’s one of our people, ” Haberman said.

“ They’ve been very close, and it’s because Gaetz is a television presence, he’s from Florida, and he’s willing to vocally defend Trump no matter what. ”

On Wednesday, Trump did not give full approval, but rather a carefully worded statement saying that Gaetz never personally pardoned him.

The New York Times reported that Gaetz filed for a preemptive pardon from the White House.

“Several of his advisers had told him this is a really bad idea, that the nature of what Gaetz is being investigated is so serious that this is not something former President Trump cornered,” Haberman told CNN.

She said Trump had “stayed away from this, and I think it will continue.”

Some in the former president’s orbit even celebrated the controversy, with a former White House employee narrating it Insider last month that Gaetz was “the meanest person in politics.”

Thursday night, Gaetz was in Miami for his first public engagement since the scandal broke – a “ BBQ, Boots & Bluegrass ” event at the former president’s Doral golf club and resort.

Gaetz dismissed the sex trafficking allegations he faces as “slander” and “savage conspiracy theories,” telling a raucous mob of conservative women, “I’m built for battle and I’m not going anywhere.”

He stated, ‘Let me assure you, I haven’t started fighting yet – because the country I love and the country I know benefits from the first American principles. I was built for battle and I’m not going anywhere.

“The slander against me ranges from disturbances in my personal life to savage, and I mean wild conspiracy theories. I will not be intimidated by lying media and I will not be blackmailed by a former DOJ official and the crooks he works with. Truth will prevail. ‘

Gaetz was joined by fiancé Ginger Luckey, 26, who he proposed last December.

She smiled and applauded as he said to those in attendance, “Thank you to my wonderful fiancé Ginger. I love you with all my heart and I can assure you that the best is yet to come. ‘
