Donald Trump is safe after an alleged second assassination attempt in less than two months.

A gunman opened fire with an AK-47 as the former president played at the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach on Sunday shortly after 1 p.m.

The Republican candidate was quickly taken to a safe location as Secret Service agents opened fire on the suspect who was carrying a GoPro camera and a backpack, along with his rifle.

The possible killer has been identified as Ryan Wesley Routh and is now in custody.

Trump assassination task force is monitoring the latest threat

Amid an apparent second attempt on Donald Trump’s life, the task force investigating the assassination attempt is closely monitoring developments.

The Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump released a statement Sunday after a suspect was arrested for pointing a gun at the former president.

Republican Chairman Mike Kelly and Democratic Ranking Member Jason Crow wrote:

The task force is closely monitoring this attempted assassination of former President Trump in West Palm Beach this afternoon. We have requested a briefing with the United States Secret Service on what occurred and how security personnel responded.

We are grateful that the former president was not injured, but we remain deeply concerned about political violence and condemn it in all its forms. The task force will share updates as we learn more.
