A truck driver has been tragically found dead in a warehouse cold room.

Authorities have launched an investigation after shocked workers made the grim discovery of their colleague’s body inside a cold store in Shepparton, northern Victoria, on Wednesday afternoon.

The alarm was raised after his vehicle was seen at the job site unattended with its engine running two hours after finishing his shift for the day.

The transport worker, 50, was found in a low-oxygen cold room used to preserve apples.

WorkSafe is now investigating the incident.

It is Victoria’s third workplace death this year, compared to 11 in the same period last year.

The previous two deaths in 2023 were related to agriculture, including a 65-year-old farm worker who died while transporting cattle in Yarrawonga South in the north of the state.
