Fox Sports commentators Troy Aikman and Joe Buck found themselves in hot water after a hot microphone caught them mocking a military flyover during an NFL broadcast.

Aikman and Buck were preparing to defeat Sunday night’s showdown between the Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers as Pentagon jets took to the skies over the latter team’s Raymond James Stadium.

The pair apparently didn’t know they were being recorded ridiculing the ceremonial pre-kickoff screening – calling it a wasteful trick by the Republicans.

“That’s a lot of jet fuel to do a small flyover,” Aikman heard say in images released by Defector Media.

“That’s your hard-earned money and your tax dollars at work!” Buck joked.

Aikman then suggested that the spectacle is a Republican practice, saying, ‘That stuff doesn’t happen with [a] Kamala-Biden ticket. I’ll tell you that now, partner. ‘

Under fire from critics after the images emerged, Aikman insisted he had no intention of discrediting the armed forces.

He noted that only a small number of fans were on hand to witness the flyover at Raymond James Stadium, which is limited to 25 percent capacity due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“I love a flyover, but it was strange to see one over a mostly empty stadium,” the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback wrote on Twitter.

‘But I am a staunch patriot who loves this country, has always respected our flag, supported the men and women in the armed forces, as well as those in uniform who serve and protect, and to anyone who suggests I know anything else not me, my beliefs or what I have stood for all my life. ‘

Buck has not yet publicly discussed the controversy, and Fox Sports has not immediately responded to DailyMail.com’s request for comment.

The military classifies flyovers as pilot training drills and has often claimed to aid in recruitment.

“Flyovers are conducted at no additional cost to the taxpayer and serve as training and meet the skill requirements for our pilots,” Navy spokesman Lt Rob Reinheimer told CNN.
