‘You will always be a tree of life dancing through the flames,’ Jessica wrote on Instagram, alongside a beautiful piece of art she created in memory of her mother.

Karen Marais died last August.

At the time, her good friend Hugh Sheridan confirmed the heartbreaking news in an Instagram post.

“I mourn my dearest and dearest friend, who has now lost both her parents far too young,” he wrote.

Jessica was only nine years old when she saw her father, college dean Tony Marais, collapse and die of a heart attack.

In 2011, Jessica told News.com.au that she was haunted by her father’s death and lived in fear of losing other loved ones in the same way.

But she credited her mother for helping the family “get through a very difficult time.”
