A state trooper of Illinois was tragically killed while investigating a traffic accident during the weekend.

Off-duty trooper Christopher Lambert, 34, was beaten and killed when he was on the scene of a car crash with three cars on Saturday afternoon around 4:45 PM.

The married father-of-one was on his way home to his family when he saw the accident on the left-hand lane of I-294 near Willow Road, according to a statement from the Illinois State Police (ISP).

Lambert tried to save the lives of the passengers involved in the crash when he was hit by a Jeep that did not stop.

Lambert threw the impact a few meters.

& # 39; Trooper Lambert deliberately placed his vehicle in a position to protect the lives of the victims of the previous crash, and took the danger himself & # 39; said ISP director Leo P. Schmitz

Lambert suffered serious injuries and received resuscitation by an on-site nurse.

He was then transported to the Glenbrook hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly afterwards.

& # 39; Trooper Lambert was a great trooper and was respected by those inside and outside the ISP, this is a huge loss that could have been prevented and never had to happen & # 39 ;, said Schmitz.

Schmitz said that Lambert would be reminded of his dedication to the Illinois State Police and for giving the ultimate sacrifice to protect and serve the citizens of Illinois & # 39 ;.

Lambert was a five-year veteran of the Illinois State Police District 15 in Downers Grove and was assigned to the Criminal Patrol Team.

He was also a former member of the US Army.

"We lost our trooper, we became weaker", said Schmitz. We lost one of our own, one of our best. Everyone loved him. & # 39;

Lambert's body was later escorted to the office of Cook County medical researcher on Saturday night.
