Bungee jumper dies after suffering heart attack mid-air over ravine in Chile

A young man has died in the air while bungee jumping in a ravine in Chile.

The 23-year-old took part in the exciting race over the Cajón del Maipo, near Santiago, but experienced health problems during the descent.

Tragedy struck when he reportedly suffered a heart attack moments after jumping from the platform.

The anonymous victim died in the air and firefighters from San José de Maipo cut his body with the elastic rope.

The young adventurer, from the city of Talca, was visiting the attraction with his mother and sister; The media claims they saw the disaster unfold.

Prosecutor Juan Cheuquiante arrived at the scene to gather information.

It is still unclear whether the man had any underlying health problems before taking part in the jump and an investigation has been launched into his death.

In December last year, a 56-year-old tourist collapsed and died after completing the world’s highest bungee jump in China.

The Japanese man was taken to the Conde S. Januario Hospital in Macau, China, after jumping from the Macau Tower.

Authorities said he experienced difficulty breathing and ended up losing consciousness shortly after the 764-foot jump at 4:30 p.m.

Paramedics discovered he was not breathing or having a heartbeat when they arrived at the scene. He was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.
