Channel Nine and Triple M presenter Ben Dobbin has suffered a horrific bicycle accident which has left him with a broken neck and spinal injuries.
The Rush Hour co-host, 48, who is also a Channel Nine sports reporter, was training for the Noosa Triathlon last week when the accident occurred, the newspaper reported. courier mail.
Ben, who is currently recovering in Brisbane’s Wesley Hospital, told the publication he was riding with cycling coach Cam Hughes when he swerved to avoid a black snake on the road.
“My front tire hit (Cam’s) rear tire and I lost control, went across (the road), got spit on and crashed head first into the only steel post,” he revealed.
Ben added that he instantly knew something was wrong and they immediately called an ambulance.
After a CT scan and MRI, Ben was diagnosed with a fracture of the C5 vertebra.
Ben underwent delicate surgery on Thursday night and was told by doctors there was a chance he would “never walk again”.
He added that in surgery he was told, through his throat, that there was a possibility he would lose his voice.

‘I told him ‘that’s my career’ and he said: ‘my priority is to save you from being in a wheelchair for the rest of your life.’
Ben added that he was told that most people who suffer this type of injury never walk again.
Fortunately, Ben took his first steps after surgery on Friday, but said it would be “a long road to recovery.”
In 2021, Ben claimed he was asked to leave a luxury resort in Queensland after an awkward situation with George and Amal Clooney.
The radio and television star is currently recovering at Brisbane’s Wesley Hospital.

Speaking on his Gold Coast radio show in 2022, Ben ‘Dobbo’ Dobbin told listeners he was forced to cut short his honeymoon while staying at the award-winning Qualia resort on Hamilton Island, after marrying his wife Amity in early November.
He explained that his wife saw Amal, 43, after visiting the resort’s spa and decided to take a sneaky photo, which was later leaked to Channel Nine news.
Ben went on to say that he and his wife “didn’t think about it” but were forced to cut their vacation short by two days after being instructed to leave the resort the next day.
A Hamilton Island spokesperson has since issued a statement regarding the incident, writing: ‘As a premium tourism destination, Hamilton Island’s primary responsibility is to protect the privacy and comfort of all our guests.
‘For the privacy of all guests, unauthorized photography or filming of guests is not permitted.
‘Ben was warned and apologized profusely. Ben was never asked to leave and is more than welcome to return to the island.
